1 Cup Ground Flax
¼ Cup Whole Flax
⅓ Cup Sunflower seeds
¼ teaspoon Sea Salt
1 Clove Garlic
1 Tbsp. Raw Cacao
¼-1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
¼-1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
⅛ teaspoon Caraway
Water to thin

Mix all ingredients together with about 1 ⅓ cups water or enough to make a batter. Let mixture sit for about 5 minutes so that the flax can absorb the water. Add more water if needed. Spread on a parchment lined dehydrator tray and dehydrate at 40 C (105 F) for 6-8 hours until dry and crisp, but not crumbly. Break into desired sized pieces and store in an airtight container.

Savory Toasts

½ Cup Ground Flax
½ Cup Sunflower Seeds (ground)
¼ Cup Grated Onion
⅛ teaspoon Sea Salt
⅛ teaspoon Pepper
½ teaspoon Dried Oregano (or herb of choice)
¼ Cup Slivered Red Onion
Water to thin
Sesame Seeds or Nigella Seeds to Garnish (optional)

Procedure:

Combine sunflower seeds, flax, grated onion, salt, and herbs. Add enough water to make a batter (think something like a cake batter - somewhere between ¼ cup and ½ cup water). Let it sit 5 minutes so that the flax can absorb more of the water, add more if needed.  Spread evenly on a parchment lined dehydrator tray (I find using the back of a wet spoon is the easiest way to spread it evenly). Garnish the cracker with thinly sliced onion and seeds if desired. Dehydrate at 40 C (105 F) for 8-10 hours, or until dry but not too crumbly. Store in a airtight container.

  2. Yes, that's totally doable. You can dehydrate them in the oven - just set the oven to the lowest temperature and leave the oven door open a crack to let the moisture out. Or, if you want to bake them, bake them in a moderate oven until crisp.

  3. These crackers look so tasty, and full of nutritious ingredients! Think I'll break out the food dehydrator and try these, as well as the raw veggie rolls you recently posted.
